At Kister Eyecare we use sophisticated equipment to assist in our eye exam, including regular retinal photographs to monitor for any changes in your eye health. Having the most up-to-date technology and equipment will help enhance your vision now and in the future.

An automated refractor and keratometer analyzes the refractive state and shape of your eye. Your current glasses prescription is determined using an automated lensometer and compared with your new prescription to monitor for changes. These instruments help guide the exam process and assist our doctors in determining your final prescription.

We use a corneal topographer to create a contour map of the front surface of the eye in cases of suspected corneal disorders. This technology also provides critical information when preparing for refractive surgery procedures such as LASIK.

Certain eye diseases, such as glaucoma, can affect your peripheral vision long before you notice any changes in your eyesight. A Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer is used to check this peripheral vision, allowing us to efficiently detect eye diseases and brain disorders affecting the optic nerve.

A comprehensive exam at Kister Eyecare also includes a photo of inside your eye using the Optomap™ Retinal Exam. The Optomap is a simple, quick and patient-friendly procedure which produces a comprehensive image of your retina, and allow us to perform a thorough eye health examination. Photos are taken regularly which allows us to compare images from year to year and detect subtle changes that could otherwise be missed. Detecting changes early is critical to preventing or reducing vision loss in certain eye diseases.

The Optomap exam is simple: at the push of a button, we can generate computer images of your retina for immediate analysis. The doctor will review these images with you during your exam and discuss any apparent reasons for concern. Experience with this technology has led to improved disease detection and has assisted us in preventing vision loss in many patients.
